When our girls were very small, we started looking to make a move to a property that was a bit safer than where we were living. We had built a nice big house on a 650m2 block in suburbia where our house was 50% of the block and our yard was rather small. We had installed fake lawn and exposed aggregate, and realised that a small yard with young children was not optimal. I was also always stressed about our girls playing out the front due to the busy road down the side of our house… and one time we had someone return my eldest who took herself off for a walk down the road – I was mortified!
I grew up spending school holidays at my Aunty’s where she was a dairy goat farmer which I loved, so I always wanted to have a bit of land that we could do some ‘country living’ whilst not being too far away from family and the shops.
For 2 years we looked for our new home, and when we found this one, we both fell in love! It had a pool, a great big grassed area, loads of trees, 3 fenced paddocks, a rustic log swing set, a cubby house and a chicken coop!
And thus started our little farm life…
